Call for Papers – CAA Vienna 2026

The #REVITALISER Project is excited to host a session on “ #AI Applications in CulturalHeritage and #Archaeological #Protection “ (S9) at the #CAA International #Conference, taking place in #Vienna, 31 March – 4 April 2026 (https://2026.caaconference.org/conference-sessions/).

#Illicit #excavations and the #trafficking of #CulturalProperty remain serious #transnational threats, often linked to organized crime and #conflict-related instability. Tackling these challenges calls for #interdisciplinary #collaboration and the integration of innovative #digital tools.

#ArtificialIntelligence (AI) and #MachineLearning (ML) are emerging as game changers, enabling the processing and analysis of vast and complex datasets at unprecedented speed and accuracy. These #technologies can help identify, classify, and monitor #archaeological features and #artifacts across wide spatial and temporal scales, supporting early detection and timely response to #heritage #crime.

Our #session welcomes contributions from #researchers, heritage #professionals, #LawEnforcementAgencies, #technologists, and #policymakers.

Submissions are invited in the following sub-strands:
1️⃣ Remote sensing and site detection
2️⃣ Artifact recognition and provenance analysis
3️⃣ Predictive modelling of looting risk
4️⃣ Integrated monitoring and early warning systems

📅 Call for Papers is open: 15 September – 26 October 2025
